Revised Schedule for Pakistan vs. England Test Series

PCB shifts the second Test from Karachi to Multan due to stadium renovations ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a revised schedule for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship series between Pakistan and England, set to take place from October 7 to 28, 2024. The alteration comes as the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, originally slated to host the second Test, is undergoing significant renovations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

To accommodate these changes, the second Test, originally scheduled for October 15-19 in Karachi, will now take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The remaining two Tests will be played as per the initial schedule, with the first Test kicking off in Multan from October 7-11, and the final Test in Rawalpindi from October 24-28.

Reason for the Venue Change

The shift from Karachi to Multan is due to extensive upgrades and renovations being carried out at the National Bank Stadium in preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will see matches held across three major venues: Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and the renovated National Bank Stadium in Karachi.

PCB’s Commitment

Usman Wahla, PCB Director of International Cricket, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the England cricket team, highlighting Pakistan’s readiness to ensure a smooth and memorable series despite the venue change.

“The PCB is thrilled to welcome the England men’s cricket team back to Pakistan. Despite these minor adjustments, we are committed to supporting fans and ensuring a memorable tour. We look forward to a fiercely competitive Test series and showcasing Pakistan’s renowned hospitality,” said Wahla.

England’s Return to Pakistan

The England men’s cricket team, fresh off their Ashes tour, is set to arrive in Multan on October 2. The Pakistan squad will also assemble in Multan on the same day, ahead of what promises to be a hotly contested Test series between two strong cricketing nations.

England’s return to Pakistan is of significant importance, as it follows the successful 2022 tour that saw both teams engage in thrilling matches across multiple formats. The upcoming series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle, with valuable points on the line for both teams.

Key Details of the Revised Schedule

  1. First Test – October 7-11, Multan Cricket Stadium
  2. Second Test – October 15-19, Multan Cricket Stadium
  3. Third Test – October 24-28, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

The decision to shift the second Test from Karachi to Multan underscores Pakistan’s commitment to upgrading its cricket infrastructure ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. As one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments in the world, the Champions Trophy will place Pakistan’s cricket venues on the global stage. PCB officials are keen to ensure that stadiums meet international standards to provide a world-class experience for players and fans alike.

The Pakistan cricket team has been preparing extensively for the series, with a focus on maintaining their strong standing in the ICC World Test Championship rankings. Multan Cricket Stadium, known for its spin-friendly pitches, could play to Pakistan’s advantage, particularly given their depth in bowling. Meanwhile, England’s formidable batting lineup will look to challenge Pakistan’s bowlers in these conditions.

With both teams eager to secure crucial points, the series promises to offer intense competition, drawing significant interest from fans both locally and internationally.

England’s cricket team will arrive with high expectations, having demonstrated excellent form in recent international outings. The team, led by captain Ben Stokes, will be looking to build on their recent successes and challenge Pakistan in their home conditions. England’s management has emphasized the importance of adaptability, especially with the venue change from Karachi to Multan, which could influence pitch conditions and match strategies.
